Rai King is the wife of Shaun King, is an American writer, civil rights activist, and co-founder of the Real Justice PAC. King uses social media to promote social justice causes, including the Black Lives Matter movement.

King was raised in Kentucky and received his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. While at Morehouse, King was elected president of the Association for Student Government and received the Oprah Winfrey Scholarship. After college, he worked as a high school teacher in Atlanta. He later went on to work as a pastor and founded a church in Atlanta called Courageous Church. During this time, King launched a series of Internet campaigns, including HopeMob.org. He later he received a master’s degree from Arizona State University.

King is currently a writer-in-residence at Harvard Law School’s Fair Punishment Project and contributes to The Intercept and The Appeal. Previously, he contributed to the New York Daily News, Daily Kos, Tom Joyner Morning Show, and The Young Turks. In 2018, King co-founded the Real Justice PAC, which supports progressive candidates running for district attorney offices, and launched The North Star website.

King’s Twitter account was deactivated on July 17, 2021. It was believed that he deleted his account for the month, saying, “Deleting my social media (again) for the rest of the month. It’s giving me great clarity. See you in August. ”

Twitter users were sharing screenshots of King’s deactivated profile and many were surprised that it was no longer accessible. One person wrote: “Shaun King’s deactivation of his Twitter account was not on my 2021 bingo card.”

Another replied, “I’m a bit surprised that he was deactivated.”
A third said: “He will be back next month. He disabled his social media for the month. King wrote extensively about the controversy in a 2015 Daily Kos article titled Race, Love, Hate, and Me: A Distinctly American Story.

He was one of the leading voices on Black Lives Matter when allegations that he was white surfaced. King wrote that he was “attacked with lies by the conservative media, lies that have been picked up by mainstream media and spread even more.”

“I have been silent on the advice of friends and mentors, but I will no longer do so.” He added: “The reports about my race, about my past, and about the pain I have endured are lies.”

King would say that “the white man on my birth certificate is not my biological father and that my actual biological father is a light-skinned black man.” He wrote in the article: “All my life, I have held the letters of my complicated family history very close to my chest.

“I preferred to keep it that way and deeply resented that I was forced to authenticate so many intimate details of my life to prove who I really am.”
